![]() One way of guessing if you have a good crown is by looking to see that each leg of the star is the same as the others. A bad crown will make an uneven star and this has the same effect as a bad bullet base. Take a look at your muzzle after a few shots and you will see a "star" of carbon and bullet lube right there on the muzzle. This part (the gas pressure) is not theory but has been accurately measured. With a 24" long barrel the gas pressure is much lower than a 16" so the gas has a much smaller influence on the bullet that it would leaving the 16" barrel. The higher the muzzle pressure the worst it gets "steered". The 22lr has a nasty bullet base and has been proven over and over the base is the most important part of the bullet for accuracy.īecause as the bullet escapes the muzzle the gases are escaping around the base of the bullet and if is not even the gases will "steer" the bullet erratically. is that all the powder gases have lost a lot of pressure. I believe the main reason they use long barrels in B.R. ![]()
